Poor House, 1995

Materials: Kraft paper, PVA glue, electric fan

This work was one of the First Draft gallery’s contributions to the Critical Spaces exhibition at Artspace, which examined the role of artist-run spaces. A cast in paper was taken of the fireplace in the middle room of the First Draft in Annandale. As in several previous works, there were issues relating to the gendering of space and also a desire to work with fragments of memory. The intention was to create a certain ambience or mood, a kind of mnemonic space.
