Conversational Portraits*, 2000

A series of 13 charcoal self-portraits. The title was borrowed from a chapter in Music for Chameleons, a collection of short stories by Truman Capote in which his dialogue with the subjects of the stories forms a portrait. Mike Parr’s drawing class at Sydney College in 1990 also influenced this work despite the fact that I did not attend the class (since I didn’t like self-portraits and I knew I couldn’t draw). Exhibited at the Elastic artist run space in 2000.
