Anne Kay and Josie Cavallaro
Who Needs Artists, 2006
A collaborative project with Josie Cavallaro as part of the exhibition It's a New Day which involved a callout to a complex mix of residents around the gallery in Woolloomooloo, NSW, to ask what members of the community might want artists-in-residence to offer them. At the same time, we surveyed the relationship between the Artspace Visual Art Centre and the surrounding neighbourhood. Requests were received and a number of events were provided for the community during the exhibition. The events included: a Cake as Art workshop in Artspace run by Natalie Woodstock for children from the community centre next door; a tour to the little-known John Passmore Museum in Woolloomooloo; an outdoor screening for local residents of the film Kids Stakes which was shot in Woolloomooloo in 1927; and an Artist-Curator speed dating evening in the gallery.
