10 Day City, 2000
Materials: Cardboard, timber, projects, found and borrowed objects.
This work was a collaborative exhibition at Gallery 19 in Sydney which was initiated by Joerg Hubmann. The other artists were Sarah Goffman, Ben Taylor, Natalie Smith and Jason Markou. Our intention was to make a work about the city; we had individual concerns about issues ranging from the privatisation of public space to homelessness, urban history and the formal aesthetics of urban buildings. The group met in the months leading up to the show to discuss ideas and to experiment with materials. The installation then evolved as a process on site (in the Haymarket, Chinatown part of Sydney) over the 10 days of the show, with visitors welcome throughout the making of the work.
