A series of charcoal self-portraits called Conversational portraits*, exhibited at Elastic artists run space in 2000

*Acknowledgement to Truman Capote for the title borrowed from a chapter in Music for Chameleons, a collection of short stories in which his dialogue with the subject of the stories forms a portrait. To Mike Parr’s drawing class at Sydney College in 1990, which influenced this work despite the fact that I did not attend the class (since I didn’t like self-portraits and I knew I couldn’t draw).
